Cold Weather Alert Freezing Temperatures Possible
A significant cold weather system is expected to impact the Freeport area beginning tonight and continuing through early next week.
What to expect:
Freezing temperatures beginning tonight, with hard freezes expected Sunday night and Monday night, and another freeze possible Tuesday night
Dangerous wind chills, especially with strong north winds
Freezing rain possible late tonight through Sunday, which may create icy conditions on bridges, overpasses, and elevated roads
Strong winds (25–35 mph) may increase the risk of weather-related power outages
Some areas may remain below freezing for extended periods, allowing icy conditions to persist
Safety precautions:
Protect exposed pipes (drip faucets, open cabinets where appropriate)
Bring pets indoors and protect sensitive plants
Limit time outdoors and dress in warm layers
Use caution when traveling, especially late tonight and Sunday
