The City of Freeport has issued a public notice regarding a monitoring and reporting requirement under the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations for public water systems.
During the fourth quarter of 2024, the City’s water system did not fully meet reporting requirements for a routine chemical monitoring parameter identified as DBP2 (disinfection byproducts). While water samples were collected within the required timeframe, the results were reported late due to delays caused by computer issues at the state laboratory.
Because all required reporting was not completed on time, TCEQ considers this a violation and cannot confirm full compliance for that specific monitoring period. However, this notice does not necessarily indicate that the drinking water was unsafe during that time.
The City has addressed the issue and continues to work with appropriate agencies to ensure all future monitoring and reporting requirements are met in a timely manner.
Routine monitoring is an important part of ensuring drinking water safety, as it helps detect potential contaminants and confirms compliance with health standards. The City remains committed to maintaining safe and reliable drinking water for all residents.
Residents are encouraged to share this notice with others who may not have received it directly, including those in apartments, schools, nursing homes, and local businesses.
